UMAPELA si Senador Pia S. Cayetano sa mga alcohol industry na huwag lokohin ang taumbayan na magkakaroon ng dagdag sa presyo ng mga alak at marami ang mawawalan ng trabaho sa implementasyon ng sin tax.

Ayon sa senador, hindi dapat gawing sangkalan ng local alcohol industry ang dagdag sa buwis ng mga alak para takutin ang taumbayan partikular ang mahihirap.

“When we’re talking about taxing sin products, please do not scare the people into thinking that what [the government is] trying to do is harmful to the Filipino people,” ani senador.

Nagbabala rin si Cayetano sa mga alcohol at e-cigarette industry

Sa pagdinig ng Senate Ways and Means Committee, tinalakay ang panukalang dagdagan ang sin taxes sa alcohol at e-cigarette products o ang Package 2+ ng Comprehensive Tax Reform Program (CTRP).

Tugon ito ng senador sa pahayag ni Distilled Spirits Association of the Philippines (DSAP) President Olivia Limpe-aw na sa sandaling madagdagan ang singil sa buwis sa alak ay mapagkakaitan ng kaligayahan ang mahihirap.

“Do not deprive the poor of the things that make them happy,’supposedly alcohol and cigarettes. That is such a sad, sad fact. Because in the long run, that is what causes them so much misery,” aniya.
